Tofu press: Start by pressing the tofu to remove excess water. Place the block of tofu on a cutting board and wrap it in layers of paper towels or a clean kitchen towel. Then, place a heavy object, like a heavy bowl or a cast iron skillet, on top of the tofu block and let it press for about 10-15 minutes. (Add a thin cutting board in between for an easier process.) This will help remove excess moisture and give the tofu a firmer texture.
Cut and marinate: Once the excess liquid has been pressed out, cut the tofu block into bite-sized cubes or nuggets shape. Sprinkle the sesame oil (if using), paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper over the tofu cubes. Gently toss to coat evenly. Let the tofu marinate for about 10 minutes to absorb the flavors.
Air frying: Preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees F. Place the tofu nuggets in a single layer in the air fryer basket, making sure they are not overcrowded. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to cook in batches.
Cooking time: Air fry the tofu pieces for a total of 20 minutes, flipping halfway at the 10-minute mark or until they are golden brown and crispy on all sides.
Serve and enjoy: Once the tofu nuggets are ready, remove them from the air fryer and serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce. Enjoy!
